Cash the Dog Guards Dead Owner’s Body for 6 Weeks

Okay, no bitching today.  Just props to Cash the dog who guarded her dead owner’s body in the woods for 6 weeks.  How’s that for loyalty?  The 3 year old German Sheperd survived on mice and rabbits and was a little skinny and dehydrated but no worse for wear when she was found by a rancher who she had flagged down.  The family of Jake Baysinger was very greatful to Cash for providing them closure.  It seems as though Jake Baysinger had committed suicide.  The 25 year old man leaves behind a wife and a 2 year old son.

What a sad story all around but it just proves the bond between man and dog.  Whatever problems Jake Baysinger had, he had the love of his dog Cash, that’s for sure.

Bitching About Pet Owners

I love animals. I’m not one of those that can’t differentiate between animals and humans, but I do prefer some animals to humans. So I’m reading this story about a 44 pound cat called Princess Chunk that was found wandering lost in New Jersey. Actually, it’s really Prince Chunk but due to all the extra weight, it was hard to check and all.

Anyways, it seems as though the fat cat was a victim of foreclosure. His elderly owner abandoned him in hopes that given the publicity someone would adopt him. Riiiiiight. Taking him to the animal shelter would have been my first choice.

Still, I’m going to cut the former owner some slack. Having your home foreclosed isn’t a good thing but I can’t help but think that the cat didn’t get that way without a reason. He wasn’t the only one living the high life.

So now we have a by-product in the U.S. mortgage crisis - abandoned pets. Another disposable relationship. But I’ve seen more loyalty from homeless people on the streets begging for money with their pets than from people who treat their supposed “family members” like abandoned furniture.

Pet ownership is a big responsibility so own up to it.
