Bitching About the Death of Miley Cyrus

Is Miley Cyrus dead?  Her career maybe.  Or maybe she dyed her hair.  Whatever.  This is what you get when you put Internet publishing in the hands of pranksters.  The false demise of Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana is greatly exaggerated.  But I do have to say, it was a good viral campaign.  I was reading it everywhere on blogs, Youtube, Yahoo and fake “Rueters”.

Seriously, why bother putting the time and effort into these fake rumors?  Is it some weird type of Internet spam for commercial purposes?  I’m not blaming Miley Cyrus’ camp for these fake rumors as it would be quite disturbing to read about your death on the Internet.  Still, I guess it proves that you can still generate this type of uproar and any type of publicity is good publicity, right?

Bitching About Ellen DeGeneres Wedding to Portia de Rossi

So, it’s seems that everyone’s favorite talk show host Ellen DeGeneres got married this weekend to Portia de Rossi.  What’s the big deal?  Maybe it’s just me being Canadian, but I don’t see what the big deal is.  And isn’t it hip to be gay now?  We see it with Tila Tequila and her MTV show where she professes to swing both ways. Some studies even show that women are more likely to be bi as well.   Heck, Kimberly Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls would turn me gay as well.  There’s just something about the way she dances that’s so sexy…

In any case, not a big deal about Ellen DeGeneres wedding to Portia de Rossi, just how much fuss everyone makes about it.  And dang, the girl did well… she’s 50 years old marrying a 35 year old hottie.  It would be nice to see what they both wore though… I’ve never been to a gay wedding.  Sources say they both wore Zac Posen and exchanged Neil Lane rings.  And apparently, both mothers of the brides attended so it’s nice to see that they have good family support.

Best of luck, Ellen and Portia!

Bitching About Beautiful People

The following story reminds me of the movie Singing in the Rain.  In that movie, a Debbie Reynolds played a background singer/dancer who is dating a famous movie star played by Gene Kelly.  It is the era of talking movies but his onscreen female co-star has a horrible speaking and singing voice so Debbie Reynold does her voice overs even though the costar is a total bitch.

Now, why am I mentioning this?  You’d think that this story only happens in the movies but this is exactly what happened at the Beijing Olympics.  An adorable little girl sang the national anthem (?) of China during the Opening Ceremonies only to be found out she lip synced it.  Oh, I could have told you that as it was too perfect but here’s the thing… she wasn’t even lip-syching to her own voice!  It was another little girl in the background who sang the song!  Officials explained that Lin Miaoke sang the song for national interests.  “The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. … Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects”.  WTF?!  There was nothing wrong with the other little girl who actually sang the song.   Yang Peiyi is her name and she’s plenty cute and such an amazing talent at 7 years old.  What message are these people sending at an international level to be THAT shallow?  That ugly kids should be hidden in the background while the good looking ones take are the face of the nation.  And seriously, there is nothing wrong with Yang Peiyi.   That was so damn affair.  They are going to give her a complex when she grows up.

And here’s the kicker.  So now the gig’s up, Yang Peiyi has been quoted as saying that “she was honored to have had a role in the opening ceremony, even though few realized just how big her part really was”.  Riiiiiiiiight.  Like a 7 year old knows how to spin that kind of story.

Bitching About Who Is The Mole

I’ve always liked the Mole as a tv show as it’s one of the few reality shows that I can see myself in.  But I have to say that while I like the premise as a pseudo whodunit, I don’t think it’s well executed (pardon the pun).  Seeing as Craig was this season’s the Mole and no one suspected him except for Paul until the seventh week proves my point that it’s all a crap shoot.   Even though Paul was onto him early means that good detective work doesn’t win.  But is it really detective work because I don’t see any player clues except stupid note taking on the most insignificant things.  I know other reality shows are all about luck as well, but you expect more from an intellectual game.

As for how much the mole sabotages the games, who cares?  For it to be a worthwhile and watchable show, the producers give the players the money back anyways.  Mark won $420 out of $500k?  And if he had not taken the mole’s dossier, he would have won $495k.  So while it’s not a reflection on the mole’s ability to sabotage, what’s the point to say his role is to keep money out of the pot when it’s given back?  There’s no incentive to work hard for the money and it turns out that the other players pretend their the mole anyways.  In fact, I’d like to see a tally of how much Nicole lost for the pot.

At the end, I suspected Craig to be the mole (through no help of the viewer clues).  He was the most obvious choice.  Mark was the typical player, Nicole was the over the top player.  Craig was the only low-key guy left.  I’m disappointed that Nicole lost as she made the show this year along with Paul.  On an underwhelming season they were the entertainment factor.
