Bitching About Suntanning

Wow, it’s been a long time since I bitched.  Almost a year as I look at the date.  This doesn’t mean that I’m not still full of piss and vinegar or that I’ve mellowed out.  Far from it but I just haven’t had the time to update the blog.  However, as September rolls around this brings another pet peeve of mine to the forefront.  I look at kids these days getting the last tan opportunities of the summer before school starts again.  Are these kids daft?!   Have they not heard skin cancer reports and how it makes you look old and weathered when you’re older  and yet they still persist in getting tans.  I hate to break it to them but that tan is a result of your skin being burnt.  This is not a good thing.  Kids these days.  Later on their vanity will cost us in medical treatments because they’ll probably get skin cancer.  Damn kids.  Youth is wasted on the young.

Bitching About the Death of Miley Cyrus

Is Miley Cyrus dead?  Her career maybe.  Or maybe she dyed her hair.  Whatever.  This is what you get when you put Internet publishing in the hands of pranksters.  The false demise of Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana is greatly exaggerated.  But I do have to say, it was a good viral campaign.  I was reading it everywhere on blogs, Youtube, Yahoo and fake “Rueters”.

Seriously, why bother putting the time and effort into these fake rumors?  Is it some weird type of Internet spam for commercial purposes?  I’m not blaming Miley Cyrus’ camp for these fake rumors as it would be quite disturbing to read about your death on the Internet.  Still, I guess it proves that you can still generate this type of uproar and any type of publicity is good publicity, right?

Bitching About Suzanne Tamim’s Death

Suzanne Tamim’s name is probably not well known in the Western world but her death has created headlines around the world.  Her story has all the intrigue of a good Hollywood movie: glamor, stardom, money, corruption.  You see, Suzanne Tamim was a Lebanese pop star.  She also had an affair with a well known real estate mogul from Egypt named Hisham Talaat Moustafa.   In a jaded world where money attracts beauty this is not surprising even in a religiously strict Middle East.   What blew the lid off this story was the fact that Hisham Talaat Moustafa has been accused of paying $2 million dollars to have Suzanne Tamim killed.

Holy crap.  This is the stuff of movies.  Hisham Talaat Moustafa is said to have close ties with the government with him being the friend of the Egypt president’s son.  When his name was first linked to the murder, he vehemently denied his involvement and the Egyptian government banned the press reports – a sheer indication that Moustafa was off limits.  However, when taped conversations surfaced between Moustafa and his hitman, a former policeman, not even his close times to the political elite could help him.

So my bitch is, how self centered and egotistical can you be to think you can get away with it?!  And second of all, how stupid was his hired hitman?  He tracked Suzanne Tamim in her Dubai apartment, stabbed her and slit her throat and then dumped his clothes outside of the building.  First of all, those swanky Dubai apartments have security cameras.  Second, nice going to leave your bloody clothes and DNA in a convenient place for the police to find!  Again, does this speak to the fact that the wealthy think they are untouchable and the hired man thought he could get away with anything?  Or was he just a dumbfuck ex-policeman?

In any case, rest in peace Suzanne Tamim.  Know that the accused will be joining you in the afterlife soon, although in a hotter climate.  If they are convicted, it’s the death pentality.

Bitching About Ellen DeGeneres Wedding to Portia de Rossi

So, it’s seems that everyone’s favorite talk show host Ellen DeGeneres got married this weekend to Portia de Rossi.  What’s the big deal?  Maybe it’s just me being Canadian, but I don’t see what the big deal is.  And isn’t it hip to be gay now?  We see it with Tila Tequila and her MTV show where she professes to swing both ways. Some studies even show that women are more likely to be bi as well.   Heck, Kimberly Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls would turn me gay as well.  There’s just something about the way she dances that’s so sexy…

In any case, not a big deal about Ellen DeGeneres wedding to Portia de Rossi, just how much fuss everyone makes about it.  And dang, the girl did well… she’s 50 years old marrying a 35 year old hottie.  It would be nice to see what they both wore though… I’ve never been to a gay wedding.  Sources say they both wore Zac Posen and exchanged Neil Lane rings.  And apparently, both mothers of the brides attended so it’s nice to see that they have good family support.

Best of luck, Ellen and Portia!

Bitching About Olympic Heroes and Stupid Olympic Events

So far, the story of the Olympics is Michael Phelps.  We know what he eats for breakfast, what size his shoes are, and that he’s double joined in his chest.  And all the attention is deserving.   I mean, to date, he has won 7 gold medals and he’ll be going for the record breaking 8th gold at a single Olympic Games later in a relay race.   But folks, let’s put it in context…  HE’S A FREAKING SWIMMER.  To put a news headline after his photo finish win in the 100 m butterfly as “heroic” is just plain idiotic.  Soldiers are heroic, fire fighters are heroic.  You get the picture.  How utterly assinine is it to compare a swimming race to the feats of true heroes.  I don’t for one second diminish the amazing talent that is Michael Phelps, but put it into perspective.

And while I’m rambling on about the Olympics, I just got a glance at race walking…  WTF?  This is an OLYMPIC EVENT?  Traditional timed events I get like running, swimming or rowing, etc.  But in racewalking, it just means you suck at running so you had to make up a bogus event.   Why walk when you can run?  Yeah, like next time I’m trying to catch a bus, I’m going to racewalk.

Cash the Dog Guards Dead Owner’s Body for 6 Weeks

Okay, no bitching today.  Just props to Cash the dog who guarded her dead owner’s body in the woods for 6 weeks.  How’s that for loyalty?  The 3 year old German Sheperd survived on mice and rabbits and was a little skinny and dehydrated but no worse for wear when she was found by a rancher who she had flagged down.  The family of Jake Baysinger was very greatful to Cash for providing them closure.  It seems as though Jake Baysinger had committed suicide.  The 25 year old man leaves behind a wife and a 2 year old son.

What a sad story all around but it just proves the bond between man and dog.  Whatever problems Jake Baysinger had, he had the love of his dog Cash, that’s for sure.

Bitching About Beautiful People

The following story reminds me of the movie Singing in the Rain.  In that movie, a Debbie Reynolds played a background singer/dancer who is dating a famous movie star played by Gene Kelly.  It is the era of talking movies but his onscreen female co-star has a horrible speaking and singing voice so Debbie Reynold does her voice overs even though the costar is a total bitch.

Now, why am I mentioning this?  You’d think that this story only happens in the movies but this is exactly what happened at the Beijing Olympics.  An adorable little girl sang the national anthem (?) of China during the Opening Ceremonies only to be found out she lip synced it.  Oh, I could have told you that as it was too perfect but here’s the thing… she wasn’t even lip-syching to her own voice!  It was another little girl in the background who sang the song!  Officials explained that Lin Miaoke sang the song for national interests.  “The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. … Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects”.  WTF?!  There was nothing wrong with the other little girl who actually sang the song.   Yang Peiyi is her name and she’s plenty cute and such an amazing talent at 7 years old.  What message are these people sending at an international level to be THAT shallow?  That ugly kids should be hidden in the background while the good looking ones take are the face of the nation.  And seriously, there is nothing wrong with Yang Peiyi.   That was so damn affair.  They are going to give her a complex when she grows up.

And here’s the kicker.  So now the gig’s up, Yang Peiyi has been quoted as saying that “she was honored to have had a role in the opening ceremony, even though few realized just how big her part really was”.  Riiiiiiiiight.  Like a 7 year old knows how to spin that kind of story.

Bitching About Who Is The Mole

I’ve always liked the Mole as a tv show as it’s one of the few reality shows that I can see myself in.  But I have to say that while I like the premise as a pseudo whodunit, I don’t think it’s well executed (pardon the pun).  Seeing as Craig was this season’s the Mole and no one suspected him except for Paul until the seventh week proves my point that it’s all a crap shoot.   Even though Paul was onto him early means that good detective work doesn’t win.  But is it really detective work because I don’t see any player clues except stupid note taking on the most insignificant things.  I know other reality shows are all about luck as well, but you expect more from an intellectual game.

As for how much the mole sabotages the games, who cares?  For it to be a worthwhile and watchable show, the producers give the players the money back anyways.  Mark won $420 out of $500k?  And if he had not taken the mole’s dossier, he would have won $495k.  So while it’s not a reflection on the mole’s ability to sabotage, what’s the point to say his role is to keep money out of the pot when it’s given back?  There’s no incentive to work hard for the money and it turns out that the other players pretend their the mole anyways.  In fact, I’d like to see a tally of how much Nicole lost for the pot.

At the end, I suspected Craig to be the mole (through no help of the viewer clues).  He was the most obvious choice.  Mark was the typical player, Nicole was the over the top player.  Craig was the only low-key guy left.  I’m disappointed that Nicole lost as she made the show this year along with Paul.  On an underwhelming season they were the entertainment factor.

Bitching About Special Interest Groups

The victim of the Vince Weiguang Li beheading was laid to rest today. I still won’t say his name in respect to him and his family because I don’t want his name to be associated to the sick fuck that is Vince Weiguang Li. His friends and family came out to say goodbye to him as well as hundreds of strangers who came to pay their respects.

Now, there also had been threats that a fanatical church group would protest at the funeral saying that what happened was God’s response to abortion, homosexuality and adultery. WTF does that have to do with anything? In what way was the story related to these causes? And then there’s PETA trying to get an ad comparing the beheading to what happens to animals. Again, WTF. Have some respect and stop your mugging for publicity for once. There’s a time and place to do things and this isn’t one of those times.

I’m so sick and tired of special interest groups just jumping on the bandwagon. And lest you think it’s just psycho fringe groups, even politicians are at it! What about Republican nominee John McCain comparing Barack Obama’s celebrity status to that of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan? The message was pretty much of celebrity status with no substance. But once again, isn’t the campaign ad gravy training on these wannabe starlets? Look at who is the user now.

Bitching About Pet Owners

I love animals. I’m not one of those that can’t differentiate between animals and humans, but I do prefer some animals to humans. So I’m reading this story about a 44 pound cat called Princess Chunk that was found wandering lost in New Jersey. Actually, it’s really Prince Chunk but due to all the extra weight, it was hard to check and all.

Anyways, it seems as though the fat cat was a victim of foreclosure. His elderly owner abandoned him in hopes that given the publicity someone would adopt him. Riiiiiight. Taking him to the animal shelter would have been my first choice.

Still, I’m going to cut the former owner some slack. Having your home foreclosed isn’t a good thing but I can’t help but think that the cat didn’t get that way without a reason. He wasn’t the only one living the high life.

So now we have a by-product in the U.S. mortgage crisis – abandoned pets. Another disposable relationship. But I’ve seen more loyalty from homeless people on the streets begging for money with their pets than from people who treat their supposed “family members” like abandoned furniture.

Pet ownership is a big responsibility so own up to it.
